Wil mezelf niet op de borst kloppen, maar het is misschien geen toeval dat ik afgelopen zomer op de IMDb uitgebreid klaagde* over hoe belachelijk het is dat Ennio Morricone nog nooit een Oscar ontvangen had, al was het maar voor zijn geniale muziek onder C’era una volta il West, die wat mij betreft op eenzame hoogte staat. Ik kreeg zoveel bijval op de IMDb, dat moet wel zijn doorgedrongen tot The Academy. Dus, als je het gemist hebt, hier kun je het fragment uit de afgelopen Academy Awards downloaden, waarin Ennio (eindelijk) het beeldje krijgt uitgedeeld door none other than Clint Eastwood. Iedereen ging voor ‘m staan, en het liet hem niet koud. Cool dat ‘ie gewoon in het Italiaans zijn dank uitsprak.

“My teacher – the composer Goffredo Petrassi – taught me everything. He is my hero. When I compose I think of him. When I write a score he is always at my side.”

“A good friendship should never be abused. You should never ask a good friend for anything unless it is offered. Then it is ok. I could never ask a friend for anything. That would mean I am using them. I simply couldn’t do it.”
