My 30 favorite movies

While contemplating my movie-viewing habits, I came to the realization that (on average) I’ve seen at least 2 new movies each week since 1982. Before that it’s hard to say. (Things were so much different without cable-tv and VHS..) Among the thousands that I must have seen, there are only very few that have gotten my personal seal of approval. Doing some self-research I decided to find out the 30 movies drifting above the others (which was really hard to do, by the way). Some of them I know aren’t perfect movies, yet they remain in my memory as precious works of art, they deserve more appreciation, or I love the colors, sounds, photography, music, idea(s), actors, or the heart and soul of these films. So, my current favorites of all time (by year of release):

Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
Down in the Valley (2005)
The Quiet (2005)
Serenity (2005)
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Lost in Translation (2003)
Code 46 (2003)
K-PAX (2001)
Office Space (1999)
Payback (1999)
The Truman Show (1998)
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Bottle Rocket (1996)
Heat (1995)
Braveheart (1995)
Se7en (1995)
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Groundhog Day (1993)
Boxing Helena (1993)
Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness (1992)
Unforgiven (1992)
Trust (1990)
The Hot Spot (1990)
The Couch Trip (1988)
Can’t Buy Me Love (1987)
After Hours (1985)
Escape from Alcatraz (1979)
Alien (1979)
Duel (1971)
C’era una volta il West (1968)

Yes, I know, I have a weird taste in movies. ;-) I think you should see them at least once, they’re not only highly educational, you just haven’t lived your life right if you didn’t see these yet.
P.S. This also means I will soon be erasing this old page from the web.
